BOILING SPRINGS TOURNAMENT (11-3-01)
The Thunderbolts had two wrestlers go 0-2
THOMAS SHOWVAKER - 0-1
CHARLES WALLS- 0-1

Both wrestlers lost in close matches. Don't be disappointed, guys. They are the kind of matches you learn the most from!

WAYNESBORO TOURNAMENT (11-10-01)
The Thunderbolts had two wrestlers go 3-3
CHARLES WALLS WINS CHAMPIONIONSHIP!
THOMAS SHOWVAKER GETS 4TH PLACE!
CHARLES WALLS - Charles dominated this tournament, much like he did in many of last years tournaments. He shut out his first opponent by a 8-0 score. Then he rolled in the finals by decking his competition. Looks like Charles is picking up where he left off last year. 10 year old 100 pounders will have to deal with a tiger by the name of Charles Walls if they want to get to the top of the podium.
THOMAS SHOWVAKER - Talk about a heartbreaker of a day! Although Thomas got 4th place at his weight class, he was so close to much more. He won his first bout in a hard fought 5-4 win. In the semi-finals Thomas built a 6-0 lead, but made a mistake and got pinned with less then 30 seconds remaining. In the consolation match Thomas had a near instant replay. Winning 5-0, Thomas got caught and pinned. Looking for additional wrestling experience, Thomas moved up into the higher age bracket. Once again, he got the takedown and lead, but got caught and pinned later in the match. I know Thomas went home very disappointed, but better days are on the horizon

ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHLIC TOURNAMENT (11-25-01)
6 LYWrestlers went 11-7 and helped the Outlaw Wrestling Club go 2-2 and take 3rd place
ACC TOURNAMENT COMPLETE RESULTS
CORY BEAVER:
MATCH#1 (WILSON) - won by pin after building a 9-0 lead
MATCH#2 (ACC) - won by pin in a personal & family record time of 6 SECONDS!!!!!
MATCH#3 (BOYERSTOWN) - won 6-0 after getting 3 takedowns
MATCH#4 (EMMAUS) - won by pin in the 1st period after building a 7-1 lead
Cory looked extremely sharp in his first competition since breaking his arm. He hopes to defend his State Championship this year and got off to a great start against some tough District 11 wrestlers. GREAT JOB CORY!
PHILIP MACY:
MATCH#1 (WILSON) - lost 0-5 in a much closer match than the score indicated
MATCH#2 (ACC) - won by pin in the first period
MATCH#3 (BOYERSTOWN) - won by pin after building a 10-0 lead
MATCH#4 (EMMAUS) - won by pin at the end of the 3rd period. At the time the score was still 0-0
Philip did an outstanding job wrestling kids 6 pounds heavier. He wrestled in the 73 lb weight class although he only weighed 67. I know with his only loss, which easily could have gone either way, he will learn from and be better because of it. Immediately afterwards, I thought to myself, I sure do pitty the next three opponents. Philip doesn't take to losing real well.
JOSHUA RUPPERT:
MATCH#1 (WILSON) - lost by pin after a hard fought match that was 1-4 at the time
MATCH#2 (ACC) - lost 4-9
MATCH#3 (BOYERSTOWN) - won by pin in one of the most exciting matches of the day. At the time, the score was 2-2
MATCH#4 (EMMAUS) - lost by pin
Josh showed real heart at this tournament. He was one of the least experienced wrestlers there(1 yr. experience), but refused to be intimidated. He wrestled aggressively and made LYW very proud. Just wait till this kid gets a few years under his belt. He is going to be something special!!!
COLBY WAGAMAN:
MATCH#1 (WILSON) - won by pin after building a 2-0 lead
MATCH#2 (ACC) - won by pin after again building a 2-0 lead
MATCH#3 (BOYERSTOWN) - lost a real heartbreaker 0-2 in overtime
MATCH#4 (EMMAUS) - won by pin after building a 5-2 lead
I cannot begin to express how impressed I was with Colby's wrestling. He looked in mid-season form while beating some top quality District 11 wrestlers. Colby just keeps getting better & better. I think he has benefited from the wrestling camps he's gone to over the summer. After watching Colby at this tournament, I think it's safe to say, he is in for a very successful season this year! AWESOME COLBY
TYLER ZITTLE:
MATCH#1 (WILSON) - lost a close 4-7 match
MATCH#2 (BOYERSTOWN) - lost 0-9 to a kid 1 year older, and 10 pounds heavier
Tyler showed exactly what I mean when I say wrestle with heart. He gave everything, wrestling in possibly the toughest weight class. His last opponent, who is a real hammer and is quite used to pinning most all his competition, found out why Tyler has never been pinned. Quite frankly, he can be glad he had 10 pounds on Tyler. He needed it! I can speak for everyone who watched Tyler. We were IMPRESSED! Tyler is one TOUGH, TOUGH kid who is going to have an outstanding year. Mark my words!
THOMAS SHOWVAKER:
All us coaches picked Thomas as one of our alternatives although he is still healing from a broken arm. You see, it was while preparing for this tournament that Thomas broke his elbow. We knew he would be an inspiration to all our wrestlers. We missed you in the line-up, Thomas! The team would have been stronger with him in there, but we'll settle with the fact that he is healing quickly.

SOUTHERN HUNNINGTON TOURNAMENT (12-8-01)
The Thunderbolts had one wrestler go 2-0
CHARLES WALLS WINS CHAMPIONSHIP!!
CHARLES WALLS - Charles won his second tournament in a row in dominating fashion. In his first match, Charles made a very good wrestler look bad by ringing up a 12-1 lead before pinning him at 2:43 of the third period. He then went to the finals and added to his season pin total (which is going to grow quickly). Leading 2-0, Charles put the clamps on for the pin in the second period! Awesome job, Charles! I know your hungry to be the best you can be. It shows in how hard you work in practice. Keep it up and your going to accomplish some amazing things!

CENTRAL DAUPHIN TOURNAMENT (12-15-01)
The Thunderbolts had two wrestlers go 6-0
CHARLES WALLS & CORY BEAVER WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!

CHARLES WALLS - Charles won his THIRD tournament in a row in dominating fashion. He is making a habit out of beating GREAT wrestlers easily, as he did in his first match. After fighting the opponent that I knew was tough for the takedown to gain a 2-0 lead, Charles simply turned on his aggression in the second period and pinned him. You could just see his opponent's spirit sink with each move Charles RAMMED onto him. In the second match, Charles rolled to a 17-0 shutout that included two very impressive takedowns. Then in the finals, Charles built an amazing 13-1 lead before pinning a STONG wrestler. He is amazing with how much he has improved from last year. It's just hard to believe he is able to dominate such quality wrestlers the way he is doing. Great job, Charles! But don't be satisfied yet. Just don't stop that hunger to better yourself, and you WILL reach your goals
CORY BEAVER - Cory improved to 7-0 this year in impressive fashion. In match #1, he took down his opponent twice, and built a 7-1 lead before pinning him in the first period. It was his 2nd match that was his most impressive. He took on a wrestler who a week earlier beat a Eastern National Champ 8-4(the same Eastern National Champ who defeated Cory last year). Well, after the dust cleared in this brawlfest, Cory owned three takedowns and a 7-3 victory! Then in the finals, Cory rocked his opponent building a 14-1 lead before pinning him with seconds left.
AWESOME JOB GUYS!!! LYW IS PROUD OF YOU!

NORTHERN TOURNAMENT (12-22-01)
The Thunderbolts had four wrestlers go 8-2
CHARLES WALLS, PHILIP MACY & CORY BEAVER WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!
CORY BEAVER - Cory rolled to 10-0 on the year after pinning his three opponents. Although Cory didn't wrestle his sharpest matches ever, I have to give him credit on doing what it takes to win. I also give Cory credit on his desire to improve. Sometimes when a wrestler is always winning, he loses his hunger to improve. Many a wrestler have been in such a position and got to thinking he was good enough already. When this happens, a loss is usually what the doctor orders to get that hunger back. With Cory, I don't see this happening. Keep it that way, Champ! Anyway, it is noteworthy to add one of Cory's three pins were against a Jr. High wrestler in a "challenge match."
PHILIP MACY - Philip picked up right where he left off last year. Winning championships. In his first match he shut out his opponent 8-0. Besides a slight mistake at the beginning that delayed his takedown for 30 seconds or so, he eventually prevailed, and took a 2-0 lead into period two. As the match progressed, Philip looked sharper & sharper. In the third period, he had an outstanding looking takedown, then put the kid on his back as the match ended. In the finals, Philip looked in his prime. He simply took his opponent down and stacked him like you see few get stacked. It was over before he could break a sweat. Nice job, Philip! Great start to the season, but stay hungry! Set your goals HIGH, and don't be satisfied unless you reach them.
RYAN VAUGHN - Ryan went 1-2 on the day and missed getting a trophy by 2 points, but had NO reason to feel bad about how he wrestled! I personally was impressed with much of what I saw. He showed vast improvement in several areas of his wrestling. In his first bout Ryan got ripped a little by getting pinned with an illegal move. It should have been stopped, but was missed by the ref. Unfortunatly, as in all sports, this sometimes happens. I must commend Ryan on keeping his cool, forgetting about it, and focusing on winning his next bout. Well, that's exactly what he did. And he did it in impressive fashion, pinning a good wrestler after building a 17-2 lead. At one point, Ryan was losing 0-2, but kept fighting, which was quite impressive to see! In his third match, Ryan lost a heartbreaker 7-5. He was working for the tying takedown at the end, but ran out of time. Like I said, he wrestled hard, gave his all, and should be proud of himself. Those trophies will come in truckloads as he becomes more and more experienced. You can see that already!
CHARLES WALLS - Charles jumped his season record to an impressive 9-1 after getting his 4th tournament championship this year! After scoring 19 points, and yielding no points in his two bouts, Charles left no doubt who the top local 100lb 10 year old is. He scored two takedowns in his 13-0 first match victory. Then in the finals, he again shut out his opponent for a 6-0 win. Charles continues to look as if he's on a mission for bigger things. After watching him tear up the local competition, you begin to get the hunch he's going to reach them bigger things. Keep it up, Charles!

Overall, I don't have to say LYW was impressive in this tournament. It was obvious not only to me, but to everyone who watched our wrestlers. But let me warn, THERE IS MUCH WORK TO DO!

SOUTH WESTERN NOVICE TOURNAMENT (12-29-01)
The Thunderbolts had five wrestlers go 10-6
CAMDEN ORNDORFF & TANNER SMALL WERE UNDEFEATED!!!
BRIK ORNDORFF -
Match#1 - Lost 5-10
Match#2 - Lost 6-8
Match#3 - Lost 2-10
Match#4 - Lost 5-7
Don't let these results mislead your judgement on just how Brik did in this tournament. Although he understandable was a bit nervous, competing in his first wrestling competition ever, he settled in and became more aggressive as the day wore on. He lost a couple of real close heartbreakers that could have gone either way. In his final match, Brik lead the entire match until the very end. The fact that Brik's confidence grew with each match is a very good sign. How he improved with each match instantly makes him a WINNER!!! Great job, Brik!!!
CAMDEN ORNDORFF -
Match#1 - Won 6-4 in overtime
Match#2 - Won 14-0
Match#3 - Won 13-5
WHOA!!! Who is this kid? And where'd he come from? That's what Camden's opponents were asking after our newest little tiger took it to em! What a way to start a wrestling career. To go 3-0, and win his first ever match in a thrilling overtime fashion, was something quite memorable. Way to go, Camden! LYW is proud! I have to say though, after watching you in practice, I was not surprised.
TANNER SMALL -
Match#1 - Won 7-0
Match#2 - Won 16-3
Match#3 - Won by pin (18 seconds)
It must be something in Littlestown's water. New wrestling hammers just keep popping up every year. And the way Tanner hammered his way through this tournament leads me to believe we may have yet another. His first two bouts were impressive enough the way he dominated the competition. But that 18 second pin dropped the jaws of those watching. If he keeps it up, he'll end up breaking his dad's quickest ever pin. That may take a while though. His dad was a big time hammer himself, back in the 80's.
TYLER SMALL -
Match#1 - Lost 0-7
Match#2 - Won by pin
Match#3 - Won by pin
Needless to say, the entire Small family had an awesome day! After Tyler got over his first match jitters, he went on to show what kind of incredible potential he has. He turned it on in his final two bouts, and pinned both of his opponents. I have a feeling if he could have had a rematch with his first opponent at the end of the day, the results would have been different. Don't worry though, Tyler, every wrestler is a bit nervous in their first bout. The way you got over it though was quite impressive. You will be a better wrestler this year because of that loss. Simply put, OUTSTANDING JOB, TYLER!!!
TIMOTHY VALENTINE -
Match#1 - Won by forfeit
Match#2 - Lost 7-11
Match#3 Won 13-12
If you keep this up, Timmy, your dad's going to have grey hair! 13-12? Wow, what a match!! The 11-7 match was a barnburner also. He must be trying to win our "Most Exciting Match of the Year" award. Anyway, what a great job Timmy did in his first ever tournament. I can see him improve with each practice. And that makes all the work of coaching worth it, ten fold! Great Job, Timmy! LYW was proud of you and the other four wrestlers who went to this tournament and represented LYW with such an outstanding performance.

BIGLERVILLE TOURNAMENT (12-29-01)

Blake Wagaman, Colby Wagaman, & Tyler Zittle are Runner-ups
Joshua Ruppert & Cory Beaver get third
Allen Chrismer gets fourth

JOEY BATTAGLINI -
Match#1 - Lost by pin
Joey got a tough draw, facing one of the top wrestlers right off the bat. His opponent had years of experience on him, but that didn't change how Joey wrestled. He was aggressive, and unintimidated. Unfortunatly, experience makes a difference some times in wrestling. Shake it off, Joey. The first league match is almost here.
MIKE BATTAGLINI -
Match#1 - won 13-2
Match#2 - Lost 5-8
Mike wrestled impressively in this hammer-packed tournament. He missed the trophy rounds by 3 points in a very close match, that could have gone either way. Losing heartbreakers like he did are always tough. However, learning from it can turn a loss into a blessing. Believe me, Michael will rack up a ton of wins this year.
CORY BEAVER -
Match#1 - Won by pin
Match#2 - Won 10-0
Match#3 - Won 7-1
Match#4 - Won 7-2
Match#5 - Won by injury default
Match#6 - Won by pin
Cory had a fun day beating two out of the three opponents that beat him last year. He deserved this sweet revenge because of the hard work he put in to better himself. Congratulations, Cory! I could sense this would happen the day after you lost to these guys. Just remember though, there is much work left. Cory also wrestled in the 13/14 year old bracket, but was forced to take third place. His 13/14 yr. old semi-final bout was too close to his 11/12 yr. old finals bout, so he was forced by me to forfeit the 13/14 yr. old bout.
GARRETT BILL -
Match#1 - Lost 2-13
Garrett was another one who got a tough draw at the start. However, Garrett has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. He wrestled a top local wrestler who has five years of experience under his belt, in a match much closer than the score indicated. He was so close to putting the kid on his back, but just missed. Don't worry about it Garrett. I was impressed, BIG TIME, on how aggressive you were. Just wait till you learn the moves. You're in for a fantastic season! I guarentee it!
ALLEN CHRISMER -
Match#1 - Lost by pin
Match#2 - Lost by pin
Allen wrestled an Eastern National Wrestler in his first bout in aggressive fashion. He may have lost on the scoreboard, but in my book he was a winner with how hard he wrestled. It was his second match that hurt the worst. Wrestling in a tight, hard fought battle with the score near even, Allen got caught & pinned. He may have been disappointed, but shouldn't be. He gave his all, which is all I ask. Wins are right around the corner, Allen! Keep your chin up!
JOSHUA RUPPERT -
Match#1 - Won 15-2
Match#2 - Won by pin (46 seconds)
Match#3 - Lost 0-11
Match#4 Won by pin
What a job our hammer, Joshua Ruppert, did at this tournament! I couldn't have been more impressed in all four of his bouts. His only loss was to a kid with many more years experience. But he wrestled him hard also. Never let an (experience overmatch) loss bother you, Josh. It's only a matter of time before you are at the same level(and beyond). What impressed me the most was his consolation finals bout. While losing, Josh kept fighting and turned the kid over & pinned em!!! It was AWESOME! I wish I had it on tape to show all our wrestlers, to teach them why you should NEVER give up. Great job, Josh!!
RYAN VAUGHN -
Match#1 - Won 12-5
Match#2 - Won by pin
Match#3 - Won 13-1
LYWrestler of the day goes to RYAN VAUGHN! What a job this kid did in winning his first ever Championship. He has improved as much as I have ever seen a wrestler improve, in a little over one year. He beat some tough customers in dominating fashion to win this Championship. Don't get me wrong, I knew Ryan was a great wrestler. But the way he beat his opponents at this tournament even caught me by surprise. All I can say is OUTSTANDING JOB, RYAN!!! If you keep working hard, nothing you accomplish in wrestling will surprise me, anymore. I mean nothing!
BLAKE WAGAMAN -
Match#1 - Lost by pin
Blake was forced into an unfair advantage because of his weight at this tournament. He had to wrestle a kid who weight over ten pounds more than himself. That's tough to do, especially when you only weigh 40 lbs to begin with. Anyway, Blake wrestled hard, and gave his all(which impressed me!). Don't worry Blake, starting next week, you get to wrestle guys your own size. I have no doubts you'll have much success.
COLBY WAGAMAN -
Match#1 - won 11-0
Match#2 - Won 9-4
Match#3 - Won by pin
Match#4 - Lost by pin
Colby continues to show huge improvements in his wrestling, and it was on display at Biglerville! Caught in a very tough weight class, Colby procceeded to show why he is one of the top 65 pounders around. He had some impressive wins over tough competition on his way to the finals. There he met one of the best 65 pounders in the east coast. I know Colby was disappointed in losing to Mr. Nopoli, but I personally was impressed with how close Colby is to being at that level himself. He was losing in a very close 0-4 match late in the third period when he got caught & pinned. I commend Colby for going for the win right to the end. He could have stalled and lost 0-4, but Colby has his goals set high, and went for the win. That's the making of a Champion. That's Colby Wagaman!!!
CHARLES WALLS -
Match#1 - Lost 0-11
I know enough about Charles Walls to safely predict that sometime in the future, that boy Charles lost to will have a loss of his own on his record. A loss to who? ....Charles Walls! I'm not taking anything away from the other wrestler. He has placed at numerous National tournaments, including Eastern Nationals. It's just that I know how determined Charles is to become the best. Just wait & see
TYLER ZITTLE -
Match#1 - Won by pin
Match#2 - Won by pin
Match#3 - Lost 3-7
I sure am glad Tyler Zittle is on our team! He is one tough, fast improving wrestler, and he showed it at Biglerville! He dominated his way into the finals in impressive form. It was there where LYW had their biggest heartbreak of the day. While battling in a tied match, Tyler's opponent was able to score right at the end to snatch the Championship. Don't be disappointed, Tyler. Many Championships are headed your way. You just keep working & improving. You'll see
