JUNIATA TOURNAMENT (1-12-02) |
The Thunderbolts had one wrestler go 2-1 CHARLES WALLS GETS 3rd PLACE! |
CHARLES WALLS Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Lost by DQ Match #3 - Won 6-0 Charles got his 13th win of the year while taking third place at this tough tournament. As usual, he was dominant in his two wins. Charles even got close to knocking off a Eastern National Champ in the semi-finals, before getting disqualified. It was a lesson learned, I'm sure, but Charles made a statement in how he wrestled this champ. I am positive Charles will get another shot at him before the season is over. Minus the mistake Charles made in the first meeting, we may be reading a different result the next time around. |
CUMBERLAND VALLEY TOURNAMENT (1-19-02) |
The Thunderbolts had two wrestlers go 5-1 CHARLES WALLS WINS CHAMPIONSHIP! |
CHARLES WALLS Match #1 - Won 6-0 Match #2 - Won 9-0 Charles picked up his 15th win of the season, and another championship. The best part of Charles Championship is who he dominated in the finals. The win came against one of the three kids who beat Charles earlier this year. Am I surprised? NO WAY! In fact, I think the other two have something coming their way in the near future, also. GREAT JOB, CHARLES! LYW IS PROUD! PHILIP MACY Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Lost 2-4 Philip lost a match that could have gone either way to one of the best wrestlers on the east coast. These two wrestlers have their own personal rivalry going. Philip may have lost this one, but he still owns the series lead 2-1. If I know Philip, he will learn & improve from this match. My money is on Philip grabbing a 3-1 series lead against this kid, after the next time they square off. |
DOVER TOURNAMENT (1-26-02) |
The Thunderbolts had one wrestler go 1-0 CHARLES WALLS GETS 2nd PLACE! |
CHARLES WALLS Match #1 - Won 4-0 This is going to sound complicated, but Charles beat the kid who took first place. What happened is Charles missed his first match due to arriving late from LYW's match #4, which made him settle for second place in this round robbin bracket. I told you it would sound complicated but either way, Charles left knowing he was the best wrestler in his weight class. That part is easy to understand! |

CORY BEAVER Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Won by Pin Cory dominated in both bouts to raise his season record to 27-0. He also hit for 4 takedowns in the tournament to raise his lifetime takedown record to 252-16. |
SPRING GROVE TOURNAMENT (2-2-02) |
The Thunderbolts had two wrestlers go 4-1 CHARLES WALLS WINS CHAMPIONSHIP & OUTSTANDING WRESTLER AWARD! PHILIP MACY WINS THIRD PLACE |
CHARLES WALLS Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Won by Pin Millions of people wrestle every year, but so few ever get to win an Oustanding Wrestler Award. No doubt it's a very small group that Charles joined, compliments of his 17 & 20 second pins. I can't begin to tell you how proud LYW is that one of their wrestlers were able to pull this off. Thinking back through the years, I believe Charles may be the first LYWrestler ever to win such an award. If anyone has ever done it before, it's been a number of years ago. Either way, Charles deserves to be congratulated. He has worked extremely hard over the past two years bettering himself, and it shows! Great job, Charles! LYW IS PROUD!!! PHILIP MACY Match #1 - Won 7-5 Match #2 - Lost 2-10 Match #3 - Won by Forfeit Not every day can be your best, and this was one of those days for Philip. Although he deserves to be complimented for his 7-5 victory over a very tough wrestler, I'm sure Philip went home disappointed anyway. My advice for Philip would be to learn what he can from the match footage, then forget about this tournament, and go about it as if the season starts tomarrow. Remember how great of a wrestler you are, and walk out for your next match filled with that thought. In this sport confidence is HUGE! Don't allow yours to go away because of one less then perfect day. |
HALIFAX TOURNAMENT (2-9-02) |
The Thunderbolts had one wrestler go 3-0 CHARLES WALLS WINS CHAMPIONSHIP! |
CHARLES WALLS Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Won by Pin Match #3 - Won by Pin Charles kept on his domination tour by winning yet another championship in overwhelming fashion. He racked up pins of 40 seconds, 1:19 seconds, and 1:39 seconds. KEEP IT ROLLIN, CHARLES! |
SUSQUANITA TOURNAMENT (2-10-02) |
The Thunderbolts had three wrestlers go 6-1 CHARLES WALLS & CORY BEAVER WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! COMPLETE SUSQUANITA TOURNAMENT RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE ASAP |
CHARLES WALLS Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Won by Pin Match #3 - Won by Pin Charles may be the most relentless wrestler I've ever known. He has a knack of taking to his opponents like a mack truck, and has made a ton of great wrestlers look bad with his relentless determination. How he can totally dominate three very good wrestlers, like he did at this tournament, is truely amazing! Just wait till you see what this kid accomplishes this year, if he continues to wrestle like he has been. CORY BEAVER Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Won by Pin Match #3 - Won 9-1 Cory looked as good as ever in the finals. He beat a very strong wrestler in convincing fashion, and looked like a real fighter doing it. You see, he and his opponent collided heads early in the match, and Cory wrestled the final two periods with an eye that was nearly swelled shut. Talk about cool looking! PHILIP MACY Match #1 - Lost by Injury Default Philip, who landed his head on cement in a previous day's match #6 victory, landed again on the already bruised head, and was forced to forfeit his match. After he was taken to the hospital for further check ups, it was determined he suffered a slight concussion. Take it easy, Philip, and heal up. We'll be praying for a fast recovery. |
SHIPPENSBURG TOURNAMENT (2-16-02) |
The Thunderbolts had seven wrestlers go 14-6 CORY BEAVER & TYLER ZITTLE WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! RYAN VAUGHN & CHARLES WALLS ARE RUNNER-UPS. BEN KILLEEN & PHILIP MACY WIN 3RD PLACE. JOSHUA RUPPERT WINS 4TH PLACE. FOR COMPLETE WNGE TOURNAMENT RESULTS CLICK HERE |
CORY BEAVER Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Won by Pin Cory raised his season record to 40-0, and got his 30th pin of the year. The pin in the finals was particularly satisfying because his opponent was one who handed Cory one of his 8 carreer losses, two years ago. TYLER ZITTLE Match #1 - Won 12-0 Match #2 - Won 13-2 Match #3 - Won by Pin Tyler simply dominated his weight class in a huge way. No doubt, Littlestown brought a bunch of their hammers to this tournament, but no one made more of a statement then what Tyler did? I told you he was one of the best 95 pounders around! RYAN VAUGHN Match #1 - Won 10-3 Match #2 - Won 12-1 Match #3 - Lost 6-12 One move, used twice, cost Ryan ten points and the championship. Other than those two moves, which you can be sure he will drill the defense to, Ryan was the most talented wrestler in his very tough weight class. That's two strait tournaments this second year wrestler has gone to the finals in.(Ryan won the Biglerville Tournament) I can say with confidence, he will be in many more as his wrestling career unfolds. CHARLES WALLS Match #1 - Won 7-1 Match #2 - Lost 3-12 Charles was leading an Eastern National Champ, 3-2 with 15 seconds left in the second period, when the momentum switched. I want to give credit to Charles opponent, who no doubt is an incredibly gifted wrestler, but my belief that Charles will do whatever work needed to beat this opponent in the future, remains as strong as ever. BEN KILLEEN Match #1 - Won by Forfeit Match #2 - Lost 0-5 Match #3 - Won 9-2 Ben wrestled extremely well in all his matches. He found himself in one of the toughest weight classes in the tournament, and came through with a strong third place finish. The 0-5 loss was a match closer than the score indicated. It also was a match that I am sure Ben will learn things from, and improve his already superb wrestling ability. PHILIP MACY Match #1 - Won by Pin Match #2 - Won 8-5 Match #3 - Lost 2-6 Match #4 - Won by Pin Philip returned to his old self at this tournament. Although getting third is not what he normally does, this particular third place was one worth complimenting. Philip had two wins over a couple of huge hammers with his quarterfinal 8-5 decision, and his consolation final pin. The pin was payback to a kid who beat Philip 10-2 only a few weeks ago. Now that's what I call turning things around!!! Philip's only loss was to his fierce rival, Joey Nopoli. These two have gone at each other a total of 4 times, with each wrestler getting two victories. Simply put, watching wrestling doesn't get any better than watching these two hammers go at it! JOSHUA RUPPERT Match #1 - Won 16-1 Match #2 - Lost 2-7 Match #3 - Lost 4-12 What an exciting show Josh put on at this tournament! His 16-1 technical fall was fun enough to see, but it was his semi-final match that made me realize just how determined Joshua is. He rufused to give up in this exciting bout, even with only seconds left. As a matter of fact, Josh rolled the kid to his back in what appeared to be a match tying, 5 point move, as time ran out. Unfortunatly, the ref felt it was too late to award Josh any points. Non the less, Josh can be very proud of his 4th place trophy, he wrestled very hard for!
LYW is extremely proud of the fact that all their wrestlers earned trophys at this tough tournament!!! |
